Did you know that jazz is the world’s most hybrid form of music?

A large number of styles influence jazz, including African rhythms and European chamber music.

If you would like to enjoy a night of jazz, visit one of these destinations near our apartments in District Heights, MD, where you’ll experience an evening to remember:

Howard Theatre

Established in 1910, the Howard Theatre is where President Roosevelt came to watch live shows. For much of the 20th century, the theatre captivated audiences with vaudeville acts, musicals, and community programming. It was shuttered for over 30 years before reopening in 2012 with an eclectic mix of performances. Visitors can hear everything from jazz to hip hop, and ticket prices are reasonable.

Blues Alley

Step into the country’s oldest continuously operating jazz club to hear the genre’s top artists. Over the years, Blues Alley has welcomed the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Nancy Wilson, and Eva Cassidy. It’s found inside an 18th century carriage house and offers the unique ambiance of the jazz clubs of the 1920s and 1930s. In the kitchen, the chefs specialize in creating authentic Creole cuisine. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m., and offerings include jambalaya, blackened catfish, and Cajun chicken.

Twins Jazz Club

At the Twins Jazz Club, visitors enjoy a journey around the world. The club offers traditional jazz and an international menu featuring Caribbean and Ethiopian cuisines. Both local and national artists take to the stage. Many are legends, and they play everything from the piano to the trombone.  The intimate setting welcomes 65 guests, which means that there’s not a bad seat in the house. Hungry visitors can enjoy curry chicken, doro watt, and chicken wings (a house favorite).
