If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, we’ve got you covered. At Walker Mill, you can explore three of our favorite Maryland museums from the comfort of home. Several local cultural institutions have recently begun hosting exhibits online. Hop on your computer and check out these virtual exhibits hosted by museums near our apartments in District Heights, MD:
Calvert Marine Museum
The Calvert Marine Museum is all about the history of Chesapeake Bay. Through an exploration of pre-historical environments and natural history, as well as a collection of fossils from the ages, visitors learn all about the annals of the bay that led to its current ecosystem. Once you’ve traveled through time to the modern age, you can review exhibits on maritime heritage and culture. These will teach you all about life on the bay, both in the past and the present.
National Museum of Civil War Medicine
This local Maryland museum invites visitors to explore medical history during the Civil War. Through remote learning resources, guests can check out exhibits full of artifacts straight from the bags of war medics. The museum also posts lesson plans, educational materials, documentaries, recorded lectures, and scans of primary documents.
Baltimore National Aquarium
Baltimore has long been home to the National Aquarium, which houses thousands of stunning species of marine life. When you explore each of the current exhibits, you’ll be able to read overviews of all of the different creatures. You’ll also be able to learn about their natural homes. In addition, you can catch 24/7 live streams of all of the fish.
Now that you know all about these great Maryland museums, it’s time to check them out for yourself. If you want to continue with more virtual museums, you can take a look at the Smithsonian’s art gallery online. To learn more about Walker Mill, please contact us.
